Air Deccan, the brainchild of Captain G R Gopinath is the pioneer in India in the field of low cost airlines. The airline was launched on the 23rd of August, 2003. The first flight of Air Deccan was from Bangalore to Hubli. The airline has its base in Bangalore and has its key base at the Bengaluru International Airport.
The airline soon after its launch became the preferred choice of the common man. With several innovative and affordable schemes, the airline soon made flying a popular alternative to train travel. . The 19th of December 2007, saw Air Deccan and Kingfisher come together and the airline was renamed “Kingfisher Red”. This move made it possible for Air Deccan to move into a new league and paved the path for Kingfisher Airlines to move on to spreading their wings to the international skies.
The Aim
Captain Gopinath began the airline with the dream of making air travel accessible and affordable to the common man. His dream was to make “Every Indian to fly atleast once in his/her lifetime”. The airline managed to create a mass appeal in no time and was able to shift travel preferences of its target audience to a great extent.
